6 minutes
to cook

This is a vegetable dish that will accompany any oriental recipe.

Or, it can be served with a bowl of rice noodles all on its own, in which case it will serve two.

First toast the sesame seeds.

Place a small saucepan over a medium heat to warm through, then add the sesame seeds.  Shake and keep them on the move until they have turned golden and begin to splutter - about a minute.  Then remove the pan from the heat and allow it to cool.  After that, add the rest of the sauce ingredients, return the pan to the heat and simmer for 5 minutes. All this can be done well in advance, then, when you are ready to cook the beans, steam them over simmering water for about 6 minutes or until tender, then toss them quickly in the sauce just before serving.

You can watch how to prepare chillies in our Cookery School Video on this page.

225g dwarf green beans (or fine green beans, topped, but tails left on)
For the sauce:
1 heaped teaspoon sesame seeds
2 tablespoons Shaosing (Chinese brown rice wine)

You will also need a steamer
