Poldina Outdoor Table Lamps
Rechargeable Outdoor Table Lamps
Perfect outdoor table lighting
I have written about outdoor lighting before when I featured some beautiful tall lanterns to light a terrace, but I have not talked about the tricky task of lighting the table itself. You want to create a soft warm atmosphere but, at the same time, be able to see what you are eating. Candles are the obvious choice but so many times they are blown out by a gust of wind and you are plunged into darkness. And the wax goes everywhere. And they attract flying insects. Hurricane lamps do sort out this problem, but they take up so much space on the table. And then I came across portable table lamps while eating outside at a friend’s house.
The lamps in question are Poldina lamps. They are slim, elegant, portable and rechargeable. The lamp is switched on and off by a touch button at the top, and ingeniously, this button can also dim the intensity of the light and even adjust the light to be warmer or cooler, depending on what atmosphere you want to create. And it is made to be used outdoors (although they are brilliant on your table indoors in winter too). It has a battery life of 9 hours - enough for even the most successful dinner party. And comes in a range of colours, from white and black to red, green, blue, maroon and pink, so you can match your lamp to your tablecloth or plates. You can buy two different heights of lamp – 38cm and 30cm so dependent on how big your table is, go with the bigger or the smaller. To recharge it you simply place it on the pad which is plugged in somewhere out of sight.
The lamps were the brainchild of a Venetian designer Federico de Majo. He spent his formative years at his family’s glass-blowing business on the island of Murano. He grew to be aware of the importance of light which he describes as being poetry and emotions. And he felt that you should be able to take that light to every room and context. So, he invented the Poldina. It is quite expensive but you will realise its worth at your next al fresco supper party.
Let’s hope we get a summer like last year as now you will be able to take a light outside to light up your dinner or supper party with friends in the garden, or read under the stars on your balcony. No more candles blowing out in the wind.
