I have talked before about the importance of colour to create a mood. And, of course, at this time of year there is only one colour – red. Red denoting a robin’s breast. Red the costume for Santa. Red for the baubles on the tree. Red for the wrapping paper. Red for your Christmas sweater. And so, to get in the mood I am suggesting you invest in a red mixing bowl for all your cooking. For this is the month to make your Christmas cake and Christmas pudding. So, do it in this Mason Cash mixing bowl.
Without question you will already have cooked in Mason Cash bowls. They are renowned for their earthenware mixing bowl and are the manufacturer of the best quality pudding basins for your Christmas pudding. They are a great British success story, starting their company back in 1800 in a place called Church Gresley in the heart of the ceramic industry. Close by were all the raw materials and fuel sources to make ceramics and there were fantastic transport links nearby to take the goods all over the UK and beyond. The pottery was run by a Master Potter nicknamed “Bossy” Mason which is where the “Mason” name came from. Cash was added when Tom Cash acquired the pottery in 1901.
And bowls are what the company are all about. In 1901 the first iconic mixing bowl was designed and manufactured, which has become a design classic. Originally made in an earthenware brown colour there is now an array of colours to choose from and to match your kitchen: blue, pink, turquoise, grey, green and a cornflower blue available in John Lewis. But the only colour for now is red. And this bowl is a joyous true Christmas red.
The traditional design red mixing bowl (called the Colour Mix range) comes in 3 sizes: 24cm, 26cm, and 29cm, and there is also an In the Forest Hog red 21cm bowl and a Hearts 29cm bowl which shows you are cooking everything with love. I am opting for the 29cm Colour Mix bowl which will be big enough for my Christmas baking. And every time I stir and make a wish it will be bringing me closer to Christmas.
