Delia's Icon award

The inaugural winner of the OFM Icon Award

Delia has become the first person to win the Observer Food Monthly Magazine's Icon Award.

Collected on her behalf by Angela Hartnett, she read out Delia's thanks. "So sorry I can't be with you all this evening, I am attending the Cheltenham Book Festival and discovering that selling a) a non cookbook and b) without a tv series is very hard going.  However, I am deeply touched and filled with gratitude at receiving this very prestigious award.  I have now spent 50 years writing recipes, columns and presenting tv - not alone - but with the help of an amazing support team who have been with me all through.  This has brought many rewards, not least young hunks who want selfies at football matches because my mum loves you, but perhaps one of the highest accolades came just recently when I learned that Angela's mum also loves me!  So, happy lucky me.
