Letters from Zapallal
Six or eight dates have been allocated by the government for earthquake drills.
In preparation for these, lots of circles have been painted in the open spaces with numbers coinciding with the numbers on the various rooms.
The first two weeks of March saw the staff in school for in-service training. They were quite intense days with long hours but on the last day there was a very pleasant celebration, with cakes, for the staff with birthdays in January, February or March.
I’m afraid there won’t be too much news this time as I returned from England in the middle of February. I left very mixed weather behind and came to hot and muggy conditions.
Early in the month we had the elections for the school council (municipio). This is a legal requirement with all the trappings of a general election. Parties are formed (three this year), propaganda is distributed and there is a debate when the three parties reveal their manifestos.
