I will never forget the Christmas when I poured all the burning hot turkey juices over my new pair of brown leather boots, ruining them. I was a student at the time, so the boots meant a lot to me. I was trying to navigate the heavy hot turkey from its roasting tin onto the carving board when the whole thing tipped up.  This juggling act occurs every year. I have experimented lifting the bird with assorted spoons (large ones, slotted ones); with a fish slice, with the carving fork and several other kitchen implements, as well as trying to pick it up with oven gloves only for them to get soaked and let in the heat.
