What?
Salter's Must Chup
Why?
If you like ketchup, mustard and chilli
I saw a van parked near where I live which said “Like ketchup, mustard and chilli? And I thought “well yes I do”. So, I took down the name of the company advertising this message and went online to find out more. This led me to Must Chup – an original sauce which blended mustards with fresh tomato ketchup. Hence the name. I imagined how, when eating a hotdog, it is usual to squeeze a row of tomato ketchup along the sausage followed by a row of mustard. So how clever to combine the two. As the bottle says “Best of both worlds”.
I investigated further by ordering the four Must Chup products to try at home. There is the Original sauce with four mustards (English, grain, yellow and Dijon), fresh tomato sauce, finely chopped onion and a zing of lemon juice. And then three other sauces which have the addition of varying amounts of chilli as well – Kick with 3 mustards, tomato and gentle Jalapeno heat; Big Kick with 3 mustards, tomato and 1% habanero for a medium heat; and finally, Bad Boy Kick with 3 mustards, tomato and 28% habanero chilli heat. All coming in an attractive glass bottle with a wide mouth making them easy to dispense.
The original has a really nice fresh tomato flavour, the predominant mustard taste was of yellow mustard although the other mustards provide more complexity. All in all, a great sauce for hotdogs, burgers, English breakfasts, toasted bacon sandwiches. The Kick sauce has a gentle chilli heat and all the other flavours of the original, whereas with the Big Kick you get a more pronounced chilli hit. So, if you like chilli with all of the above this is the one for you. The Bad Boy Kick was too hot for me but if you are a chilli head then go for this one.
The sauces were launched five years ago by twins Andrew and Mark Salter. They point out the versatility of the products as not only a sauce, or a marinade for chops or chicken for the barbecue, but also as a dip or a flavour enhancer for cottage pies, stews, and cheese on toast. The website is full of interesting recipe ideas for this. And the range qualified as a finalist for the Food and Drink Awards for the last three years.
An interesting original product which you may find indispensable
