New instore this Christmas, the supermarket's succulent free-range Silver Slate Turkeys are big on quality, Lidl on price.
Whether you're cooking Christmas dinner for the first time, or are a veteran of many years, finding the perfect turkey is the first step to a truly memorable feast.
So it's good to know that this year at Lidl, you'll find a bird of rare distinction. It's called a Silver Slate Turkey, and it's a traditional heritage breed with beautiful silvery cream feathers tinged with a hint of blue.
It's a naturally slow growing bird, prized for its succulent, fine-grained meat and rich, traditional flavour. Lidl's are reared unders RSPCA Assured high-welfare conditions on small free-range farms in East Anglia. The birds are fed a cereal-based diet and have 24-hour access to lush green fields from their airy shelters. They also have pecking objects, straw bales and plenty of perches, so they lead active lives, growing naturally to full maturity over some 22 weeks - almost twice as long as a standard turkey.
The result is a well-muscled bird with plenty of tender, flavoursome meat - and because it's from Lidl, you know it won't break the bank.
You'll find fresh whole Class A Silver Slate Turkeys instore from 19 December in a choice of sizes, from 4kg (ideal for smaller families) through to 6kg birds that will comfortably feed 10.
