What?
Delouis Mayonnaise
Why?
Could pass for a home-made mayonnaise
I always like to keep some mayonnaise in the fridge for when I need a small quantity for sandwiches, or making a blue cheese dressing, or a quick Marie Rose sauce for prawns. The taste never quite matches your own but the convenience aspect wins out. But now I have found this tub of Delouis fresh natural mayonnaise in the chiller cabinet in Waitrose, made with free range eggs, which could truly pass as home-made.
The list of ingredients reads the same as a traditional recipe for mayonnaise: sunflower oil, Dijon mustard, egg yolk, white wine vinegar, salt, fresh lemon. It has a lovely eggy taste and that slippery emulsified appearance which would happily fool anyone. Stir some dill through it and serve with some cold poached salmon for a Spring lunch. Even better, now the season is under way, serve it with asparagus for a simple starter or a quick lunch.
Sainsbury and also Waitrose stock a version of it in a jar, which I find handy to have in as well for just dipping in and out of, but the chilled version is the one to go for if you want to dollop it out into a bowl and pretend you have been hard at it with the balloon whisk!
Conclusion:
Great for the asparagus season.
