I am preparing to make the Classic Christmas Cake and am unsure about the brown paper and string around the outside. Is this essential? I have neither and wondered if baking paper would be ok?
When the Christmas book came out last I made the 2 recipes (Christmas Cracker puddings & Parma Ham percorino & rosemary crisps) using brick pastry, feuilles de brick. It was available in my local Waitrose then. I have not seen it there since. Do you know where I could find it? I have not managed to source it online.
Which web site would you recommend to purchase cooking utensils ie, blow torch, oven thermometer and any other 'gadgets'
necessary to produce Delia's recipes
I made my Classic Christmas cake, thinking I would decorate it with nuts like the photo of the last minute Christmas cake. However, I thought the nuts would be stuck to the cake using apricot jam glazing or something - I have only just realised I should have put them on the cake before cooking it. Is there anyway I can decorate the cake with nuts even though it is already cooked? This is the first time I've made one and I don't think I can face making marzipan and icing and icing it.
Hi Lyndsey. I am about to make my delia's classic christmas cake. However my family do not like the taste of alcohol.
Can you suggest an alternative to use to soak the fruit and feed the cake
Also can I still make it weeks in advance or should I make it nearer the time, as I believe the alcohol preserve the cake?
Kind regards - Allison
