

Hi I’ve been told to avoid white flour amongst other things. I’ve baked my Christmas cake for years using Delia’s recipe. Can I use plain whole meal flour instead of white? Will the cake turn out the same? Thanks

Substituting all the flour for wholemeal will make a much heavier cake. I think half wholemeal and half white would be a preferable option.

Hi so this was asked after the horse had bolted and because I need to make another cake for my son. In view of your reply I’ll stick with white flour for his but going back to mine - I finely sieved the wholemeal flour and didn’t put in any grains that didn’t go through, but I am worried about it now. Does being heavier mean it’ll be dry? Is there anything I can do - feed it more brandy? Thanks

I think sifting out and discarding the bits of bran was a good idea.
I would feed it as usual.
I’m sure it will taste lovely.
