using plain flour in Delia's Guinness Cake recipe

My query is about the Guinness Cake recipe in Delia Smith's Book of Cakes.
Could I successfully substitute white flour for the wholewheat flour in the recipe?

I am a huge fan of Delia. Started using her recipes in the 70s when I got married. Still have all her recipe books. She is absolutely flawless, her recipes always work. Please tell her that I make her Damson chutney every year and give it to friends for Christmas.
Since I retired I decided to learn to bake. I have a few successful recipes in my repertoire, now want to try the Guinness Cake.
