

Hi Lindsey, soft dark brown sugar and soft light brown sugar seem very difficult to find at the moment. If this is still the case in a few weeks time which sugar is the best substitute in the Spiced Damson Chutney recipe and also the Spiced Pickled Runner Beans. I have been making both of these recipes for over 20 years as well as many other Delia preserve recipes.

Hello Janet,
You can use either brown or white sure in either of these. Unrefined sugars are good but both will work with white granulated if that’s all you can get.
Most shops seem to have most of their stock back on the shelves so hopefully that is the same where you live.
