

Hello Lindsey,
I did the white bread mix recipe online last week to make the French bread sticks it was nice so I decided to have another go but felt the rise was longer than the time given. So I went back to the recipe in Delia’s book only to see that there is a teaspoon of sugar whereas on line there is not is this an error because thinking about it does not the sugar activate the yeast ?

It’s not an error. Delia deliberately omitted the sugar in cookery school versions of white and wholemeal bread.
Yes, sugar will speed up the rise a little if you would prefer to include it.
