Substitute for Molasses sugar

Hello Lindsey,

I hope you are all well in the UK.

I am planning to make Delia’s Irish Whiskey Christmas Cake but have been unable to locate molasses sugar here in Australia. Should I substitute molasses syrup or dark brown sugar - it is used in the pre-soaking mixture.
