I see something called "baking fat" in magazine recipes and on supermarket shelves. Can you tell me what this is and whether it can be used in Delia's baking recipes, please?
Lindsey, Food Editor replied
Hello,
Mostly baking fat is a vegetable based butter or lard substitute made with vegetable oils such as rapeseed, sunflower & palm. Some are not suitable for non-dairy as they contain buttermilk.
Kind regards
Lindsey

Thank you. Presumably if they are vegetable based and produced in block form, the oils have been hydrogenated.

Some are free from hydrogenerated oils, and the ones that are probably make it quite clear on the packerging.
