Keeping preserves...
Asked on 9 Oct 2019 by littlebear
Is it necessary to preserve marmalade and jam by putting the jars into boiling water and simmering for 10 minutes or will they keep well unopened in store cupboard or fridge without doing this? If so, how long will they keep, and also for how long will they keep once opened? I'm new to jam and preserve making so unsure if it's necessary to preserve in this way (i.e., canning).
Thank you
Hello,
We sterilize washed jars in the oven which is very easy.
You can keep preserves in the fridge for a month or so but they will last for years in sterilized jars in a cool, dark place.
