

I followed the recipe (and watched the video) on poaching eggs and followed the instructions to the letter but sadly my egg yolk was not runny! Could this have been due to having too deeper water in the pan i.e.the whole egg was immersed ?

That could be it. I expect a larger volume of water will retain the heat and stay hotter for longer.
