I would like to ask Delia, WHO taught you how to make pancakes?
I was just saving the recipe for Kaiserschmarrn Austrian "pancakes" and for the base of the dish it refers me to the recipe for "Basic Pancakes" which it states is listed below but of course it wasn't, so I had to go in search of it. When I did a search on the site for Basic Pancake I get a recipe that is in no way shape or form a PANCAKE. It might be a crepe, but that is NOT a pancake. I will say one thing, Americans may not be experts on foods like Macarons, Madelines, even steamed puddings, all sorts of things, but we ARE experts on pancakes. What I see on this website under this name are NOT pancakes. They may taste good, may even be excellent. But NO pancake can be folded without breaking and almost thin enough to see through it. A pancake actually has a thickness to it, it can be measured, often made with buttermilk. I'm not sure if this crepe type recipe is what is intended to be the one called "Basic Pancakes" but I think the name should be changed. At least here in the United States the recipe listed will NEVER pass for a pancake. Is this suppose to be the basic pancake recipe?
