

I made Delia's Rich Fruit Cake for Christmas and it said do not look in the oven for at least 4 hours which I believed! Unfortunately it was burnt, such a shame with all the lovely ingredients. I am trying to eat it but I am afraid it is for the bin. I have used Delia's recipes for years and they are excellent. My Complete Cookery Course book is old and dropping to bits, maybe this recipe has been revised on newer versions of the book?

I’m really sorry to hear that your Christmas Cake is overcooked.
Delia’s Rich Fruit Cake recipe, that we all follow, still says not to look for 4 hours.
Did you make the 4 egg version in an 8 inch lined cake tin?
Did you use a fan oven setting?
Did you cover the cake with a double layer of parchment?
Did you protect the outside of the tin with a double layer of brown paper?
Did you bake the cake on the lowest shelf?
Do you know if your oven is running to the correct temperature?
Sorry for all the questions but it may help us to understand what happened.
