Black Beans and Black-eyed Beans

Lindsey I am currently making 2 recipes - Mashed Black-Eyed Beancakes which require black-eyed beans and Black Bean Soup which requires black beans. Could I just buy one or the other type for both recipes or are they 2 very different beans?
