Baking two smaller cakes
Asked on 20 Nov 2019 by Katy Harris
In the recipe it mentions scaling the cake to 18cm. If I wanted to use the recipe to bake two 18 cm cakes (after adjusting the eggs etc) - would I be able to bake them in the oven at the same time? Would the cooking time be the reduced time or the original time for the 20 cm square cake? Or would you recommend baking each cake separately? Many thanks, Katy
Hello Katy,
I’m not sure if you are using conventional or fan assisted heat?
We use the bottom shelf of a conventional oven set at 140C. As it’s best to have some space around each cake it would be a bit tight for us to fit two cakes on the bottom shelf, so we would make one at a time. Your oven shelf may be wider than ours.
If you are using a fan oven you could use 2 shelves and bake them at 115C.
Best wishes
