I have recently started baking cakes in my conventional oven rather than my fan oven. Would you agree this is correct? Also which oven would you recommend for meringues and scones please?

We generally use conventional heat for consistently good results in all baking. I know that many members achieve great results using a fan oven, but I’d say that any oven takes a bit of getting used to.
As you have the option of a conventional setting and is working well for you, I would stick with it.
