

I made sticky tea bread from the ‘frugal food’
Cook book. The recipe said to cook for 1.5 hours. This was way too long! My cake was black and burnt when it came out of the oven. It was inedible!
I think it should be more like 45 - 60 minutes. I also looked for reviews to see if anyone else had experienced the same. I found one review by a teenager cook who said exactly the same that the cooking time is incorrect.
If you can let me know your thoughts on this

I checked the recipe against the original book published 44 years ago thinking that there may have been a typo but the two versions are the same.
So, I’ve made the recipe today and baked it for the full 1 ½ hours.
I agree it is very dark on the top but I left it to cool and have tasted it (a few times) and it doesn’t taste burnt and I’ve enjoyed it more than I should, so I’ve wrapped it and stored in an airtight tin and will try it again when it gets stickier as stated in the recipe.
If the publishers decide to re-print Frugal Food, I’ll make a note that this recipe should be re-tested before.
