About Delia's tablespoon measurement

Hello
Regarding the definition of a Tablespoon measurement. On the Delia site there is an item where she says a tablespoon is 20ml. I'm in Australia and our tablespoon is also 20ml. Both countries have 5ml teaspoons.

General information online says that a UK tablespoon is 15ml. I'm happy to use 4x teaspoons to get to a 20ml tablespoon but..... which measurement does the Delia site use when talking about a tablespoon 15 or 20?

Hello Sue,

A tablespoon in the UK is 15ml BUT if you are following Delia’s recipes, Delia says this in her book….

‘I have to confess I have never liked measuring spoon sets because

  1. they vary, and b) I’ve always thought they were a bit mean.
  2. So I use conventional, old-fashioned teaspoons (5ml), dessertspoons (10ml) and tablespoons (20ml).’

This means that when you follow a Delia recipe you should use a 20ml spoon for a tablespoon or 2 dessertspoons per tablespoon will be the equivalent.
