I rarely post non-food topics but feel so moved at the terrible plight of the people in Burma.
I'm engulfed with anger watching the news coverage of these poor desolate souls left to fend for themselves in such extremis by a heartless regime bent on national secrecy and refusing aid, it's almost too much to bear.
Now there is the devastating earthquake disaster in China, thousands of people buried under rubble.
I weep for all those lost souls.
However much of a bad day you have today, be glad of it, so many others would.
No shops open around here as Holiday but managed to find a kind neighbour to borrow glace cherries from ... chocolate cake now made and myself and aforementioned neighbour are now chocolated-out ! Fully recommend it ... the recipe, not the feeling !

having listened to you all enjoying your hot sunny weather for the last two weeks (and being green with envy) we are finally in for some ourselves - should be 28 degrees by Thursday. About time too!!
BBQ is on standby, fake tan at the ready. Thanks for blowing it this way!!
....................... at the traffic lights, on the way back from a craft shop,( I had been buying card making gear )
meatloaf tape blaring out,' Dead Ringer For Love' Me, singing at the top of my voice, I looked out of my open window to see in a car opposite a very 'fit' looking young man leaning out of his window singing along with me,
but what made me laugh was, my oh sitting looking straight ahead as if nothing was happening and we were stationary for quite a while, so the duet lasted for some time, it was GREAT perked me up no end.

Hi Gerry
As I was catching up on past posts I saw one from you regarding dairy free chicken Pate and I also saw your recipe for dairy free Salmon Pate. Anyway..... what is Dairy Free Pure from Waitrose you refer to? Is it dairy free cream like Alpro?
Thanks / BB xx
It seems ages since I've had time to log on and hope everyone is well. Please update me on anything amazing I may have missed this past fortnight or so!
It's been manic in Chez Bea! Monty is doing well and the shop is.... well there are lots of people coming in but I need more sales!
I've been travelling to buy more stock for autumn and winter, helping out with the baby and generally running around like a headless chicken!
The usual people are in and out and I need a holiday!

I roasted some chicken pieces on Saturday lunchtime, to take to a picnic.
The chicken sat in Tupperware in Hyde Park all afternoon, then the leftovers sat in my nice warm flat all Saturday night. They only went in the fridge 24 hrs after they were first cooked.
I've just eaten the remains for my lunch.
I say I'll be fine - they looked and smelled ok, and it wasn't THAT hot on Saturday, but none of my colleagues is convinced.
They've started a sweepstake on how long until I'm sick!
This is going to sound really lazy .. a) as this is a cookery website and b) this is my first posting ... but here goes ... !!
Someone a long time ago made me a no-bake chocolate cake, which I think was basically broken digestive biscuits, chocolate and nuts, which (as the name implies ... even for blondes like me) didn't need baking, just setting in the fridge. Does anyone have a tried and tested recipe for this ... please ... having a chocolate craving ... !!
I don't think that children can ever be too young (with parental guidance) to discover the joys of cooking.
I remember standing on a chair to help my Nanny to make pastry and beat the mixture for fairy cakes.
DQ has kindly placed a pic of my grand-daughter Ruby (21 months) and her first cakes made with the help of her Daddy (my son) onto the Picasa Recipe site.
So to all young Mums, and Young Grand-mums too, put their pinnys on and get them cooking !
Delia, I think you had better watch out , there is a whole new generation on its way, but then again I think you have a lot to be thanked for that !!
Yummy
About a month ago there was a thread about shoes, from Hotter, posted by Merrie, and I took a note to check their website later on, as I also have a hard time finding shoes that fit me comfortably, so, today I did it , and was not amused when I consulted the fitting tips regarding the width of the foot. For women's shoes they offer standard and EXTRA LARGE, while for men's its standard and GENEROUS(!). So, if you're a woman with larger feet you're an elephant, but a man needs only a little bit roomier shoe! I wish they would give us a more GENEROUS approach.
Am I being too touchy?
Sorry, I needed to let the steam out.

while I was away?
We had a fantastic five days in Paris even though it rained quite a lot of the time.
The first part of last week I spent getting back down to earth (literally!) sorting out the garden-weeding, mowing and all the usual things. Then Thursday, our friends came over to stay for a few days but today I'm home alone and it's lovely!
The sun is shining again today so, after catching up with my mails, I'm out in the garden to oil the wooden furniture-a nice relaxing thing to do in the sunshine.
Back to the bridesmaids' dresses tomorrow-nearly finished them now-just some hand sewing to do.
Hope everyone is well and happy and enjoying some sunshine too.

Years ago I was involved in the PR for Bramley apples, which are a fantastic seasonal British product with its unique fluffy texture when cooked which makes it brilliant for apple pies etc. We hired Gordon to be our celebrity chef at the new season launch at which he was to cook some Bramley recipes for food journalists. He asked if he could film his activity as part of his documentary Boiling Point which we agreed to. When BP was aired, Gordon was shown preparing his Bramley recipes in his own kitchen at which point he said "I'm going to use Cox not Bramley because I think Bramleys are rubbish and they are all too thick to notice the difference." It was totally unprofessional, dishonest and was an appalling thing to do to the hardworking Bramley apple orchard owners - all just to stir up some controversy to publicise his own show. I think he is an awful man - we protested outside his restaurant and he had to apolgise and pay his fee back,
So there you go. I really don't like him!!
What a lovely day we had yesterday. It was Mother's day here in Belgium and my 3 girls treated me to 3 chickens! They are now building a hen house with their Dad. And we ate our first asparagus out of the garden. Shared them with my parents who had come for the day. They were delicious!

Hi guys!
I have had quite a challenging few months. I still do not have any clients as yet. I know starting a new business - especially a new concept like 'the cookery Angel' will take time (& effort) to become 'known' etc but I need to de-stress!
I won a 'luxury spa break' in the baking comp. And promised to take my mum on the break. It may seem like bad timing (as business was recently launched) it's only for two nights (Westin Turnberry resort Scotland) mid week BUT I feel I need to relax and see how best to get my business 'out there'. Also, if we don't take it before end of May prize will be invalid.
We won some fabulous spa treatments and full board too so we're going to make the most of it. I haven't had a holiday in years so it will be such a treat.
I believe in my business but just need to wind down for two days.
Bye the way 'the Jane Asher Home Baker of the Year comp' is now launched and the first prize this year is a £25,000 new kitchen. So go on Delia members get your recipes sent off. It was a fabulous experience why not enter this year?
