I roasted some chicken pieces on Saturday lunchtime, to take to a picnic.
The chicken sat in Tupperware in Hyde Park all afternoon, then the leftovers sat in my nice warm flat all Saturday night. They only went in the fridge 24 hrs after they were first cooked.
I've just eaten the remains for my lunch.
I say I'll be fine - they looked and smelled ok, and it wasn't THAT hot on Saturday, but none of my colleagues is convinced.
They've started a sweepstake on how long until I'm sick!
Ooooh TOM - rather you than me! But then I do admit to a certain paranoia where food safety is concerned!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.....
If they tasted and smelled ok you will probably be all right. I prefer to keep my food in the fridge if possible on the other hand don't forget that our body also has defences which can take quite a bit if we are healthy. One of the things which is making us weaker is all the care we take with everything. Once I read an article where they said that girls with older brothers are a lot healthier because they have more contact with all the filth they bring home. Our body needs to learn to protect itself. Still...... I am a bit difficult with food: if it doesn't smell good or look fresh I won't eat it!
5 pounds on you getting at least queasy. If you're generally healthy you might fight it off but if not prepare to be sick.
I think it all depends on whether or not salmonella bacteria are present, am I right?? My far from expert understanding is that warm conditions allow salmonella to thrive and multiply - but I thought that although most chicken may have salmonella, not all do. If your chick doesn't have the bacteria, you might be ok.
Anyone know if this is correct or total drivel that I have somehow garnered?
Yeah, my art director got salmonella poisoning from some chicken.
But I think very few chickens in the UK have it these days. These two sources suggest <10%

And my chook was cooked well at 220 C, so if it did have salmonella it's possible the bacteria were all killed.
I'm feeling safer now, I've got probability on my side!
i'd be interested to see how this one turns out! if it was me I'd eat it and not have given it any more thought. i don't really pay too much attention to food saftey (although perhpas i should)??? i leave stuff out all the time! i very rarely have stomach upsets!
That html code is for a less than sign.
I just did something similar with a chicken tikka wrap. It's been one of those days at work so I decided to take my lunch out in the hope that I'd get to eat it in peace and quiet. Left it in the car while I nipped into Asda and by the time I got back to the car it was quite warm. Am waiting with bated breath! My digestive system is pretty robust so we'll see!
Have a stiff vodka martini and you'll be fine.
Hope you are OK TOM. I'm afraid that I'm completely paranoid when it comes to chicken and fish and the temperature in which both are stored.
Rather you than me - take care X
Where is Krish when we need him? He'll some interesting scientific facts about this.
I would say that if you were going to be ill ... you would have been by now ... but alcohol would help anyway !!
If the worse comes to the worst then you'll empty out (excuse me for being so blunt!) and maybe loose a few pounds. You'll sweat a bit but you'll live cos the chicken is cooked.
I wonder how wrong I am?????????

A tenner on you NOT getting sick, 3OM, you`re a fit healthy young lass and have too much in your life to think about.
Start thinking about being ill, and yes, you`ll be ill. Vod martini is the way forward.......Have 6 and then you can blame the drink!
crumbs :-)
Isn't it only a problem if the chicken isn't cooked properly and is then left out of the fridge? This is when bacteria form. But not an expert on this subject! I should imagine if it tasted ok then you will be fine. Good luck!
I bet you'll be ok! I've done similar things before, you see, I tend to be the -garbagge can- in our house, I'm the one who usually ends up eating the leftovers and so far I've managed to get away with it. Funny enough, the few times I had food poisoning it wasn't on leftovers. As my mother puts it - what does not kill you , fattens you up - That's portuguese expression/saying for -what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
Now, seriously, chicken is a bit of a gamble, especially cold.
All the best,
Amelia
Hope you are OK TOM. I wouldn't recommend eating chicken after being that long out of a fridge. I don't even eat meat yet I've had severe food (rice) & water (in Africa) poisoning and it wasn't pretty.
Here's hoping you have a strong constitution. xx:)cupcake
I meant to say 4 hours max out of a fridge is the food industry guideline. xx:)cupcake
Don't think I'd risk it 3OM - I think you'd be throwing up by now if you had got food poisoning...... you have been quiet...... are you OK?

I was in the pub enjoying the sunny evening! Seems I'm made of stern stuff - I'm still feeling fine.
Off now to make a lamb and minted pea salad for dinner. Thanks for all the concern and advice, let's hope I stay ok!
Brilliant news. You must be fit as a fiddle. I'm glad you can enjoy your supper tonight.
xx:)cupcake
Sorry I missed this one.
Hope you are still well, TOM-I'm a great believer in if it looks and smells fine, it will be.
