I have just made beef and pork burgers using my burger press from Lakelands.
using FRESH beef mince, and FRESH pork mince.
I am currently in the process of open freezing them, then i bag them up, yes i have used waxed discs too.
They look lovely by the way.
Beef Burgers, with onion, worcesthire sauce salt and ppepper, fresh bread crumbs and egg to bind.
Pork Burgers, with onion, apple dash of tabasco and sage and s & p.
Now QUESTION....
as these have not previous been frozen, can i cook them from frozen, either in the oven, frying pan or bbq....or should i defrost before cooking.
Thank you for help
Sammy
I know you can cook the beef ones from frozen, Sam, but have reservations about the pork. I have done roast beef and lamb from frozen when in desperation, but I`ve always defrosted pork roasts first.
They sound divine. More barbecuing, perhaps??????

I`ve just looked up the internet "Ask the Meatman" and he says pork can be cooked from frozen, so it looks like a thumbs up, Sam.
OH loves Big Al`s and they are just 100% steak, however they do stick a bit when put straight on the barbie. I always oil them first.
They'll be fine from frozen Sam, but if you're worried send them round here and I'll try them all first :-)))
oooh are you both really sure? cos i have been searching the tiniterweb, and am finding conflicting advice, but I know you 2 (as well as I can) so i do trust your information......its just the wariness bit - do you understand, nothing personal.
Sam
No that's fine Sam, but you wouldn't undercook them and have them pink, would you? I like ours well grilled :-)
Hi Sam.
What cut of meat did you use for the beef ones?
I know Delia's recipe calls for a large percentage of fat, what do you recommend?
Hi,
Sorry to hack your thread but what does a burger press do? does it just shape them? also those waxed discs what are they for and can they be reused as it sounds as if they get thrown away, would love to make my own burgers, i have been looking at the one on lakeland.
Thanks
Mat
the burger press from lakeland, basically shapes and press them.
the wax discs allows them to be stored without sticking together,
I brought my lakeland burger maker last year and this was my first use.....and i so wish i had used it earlier, it makes burgers look like the sort you get frozen from birds eye or the butchers.......can;t wait to try them.
I can;t really tell you about fat to meat ratio, as my mince beef was on offer in tesco buy 2kg for 4 GBP...and its a fairly lean, variety.
But I added to it.

I got a press a couple of years ago, from a sausage making supplier - it's a bit fiddley to clean afterwards, but I thought if I was making my own sausages I might as well make my own burgers too- from scratch; but I've never been particularly impressed with what I've achieved. I thought it might be the choice of beef. Delia says to whizz the meat in a food processor (haven't got one) so I've always used the mincer on the Kenwood.
Anyone got any suggestions how I could get better results (sorry to divert your question Sam)
Jeni this would make a good query on its own and will get missed at the bottom of a thread - do you think you might start a new discussion and tell us what your recipe is that you make, then we can compare them. I don't think we've had a burger recipe discussion lately?

You don't even neeed to type it out again Jen, just copy and paste with a new title :-))
Just to let you guys know....As an experiment, I cooked one of each burgers last night from frozen.
And they were delicious, and NO ill side effects, so you CAN cook fresh burgers from frozen.
Thanks for all your help though.
