Alternative Mini - Chopper  (1 Reply)
Thursday 01 May 19:31

For anyone interested there is a mini - chopper very similar to the one which Delia uses on this website:-
www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk
it is in the food preparation and weaning section on (I think page 3 or 4) and priced at £18 ...
funnily enough it is a site for mothers, babies and toddlers.....now I wonder how I came to be reading that during the last fortnight !!!

Just as an addition to the subject of soapnuts which came up yesterday, I mentioned that I had them but rarely used them. Well, today I put in a wash of towels and a towelling bathrobe which had quite a few marks on it so I thought I would use a hotter wash than usual. I put the objects in the drum , measured out the washing liquid, wondered whether to use a soap nut and then went out of the room to get some tea-towels to add to the drum. Mission done, I then put the washer on at 60 degrees, not my normal temp. Cycle complete, I put washing out on line, thinking the higher temp. had made a difference for the better! On coming back in I noticed my washing liquid still on the worktop, I had forgotten to put it in the drum!! Lesson learned, do we really need this expensive commodity when it doesn't seem to make much difference, if any, to the cleanness of our washing?

Hi Impi,
We spoke last week about food intolerances and you asked I could suggest any snacks for your daughter, well at the weekend I went to my local Asda and brought some of their wheat and Gluten free mini bread sticks along with some lemon biscuits and both were really nice. The biscuits weren't too sweet for a change. Thought I'd let you know so that you have some more options for your daughter.

Gift website  (3 Replies)
Saturday 26 April 13:51

Not food related, but I loved this little site: www.pylones.com. It's a French company with several stores in Paris, selling small gifts (from 4 euros per). Great for little thank you gifts you give throughout the year, and fab stocking fillers for young people (and for moi, I love fun stuff like this!). I made an order on Tuesday and it arrived (in Madrid) this morning - card holders, ice scrapers (I couldn't resist, they're so gorgeous, will now hide away for Christmas presents and hope to remember where I stashed them!), little handbag mirrors (my daughter swiped one as soon as we opened the box), big luggage tags. They throw in free gift wrap and stickers, too. I found the shipping cost a bit pricey, so it's worth making a biggish order - or waiting for a trip to Paris :))

Have a really long look through: www.tastespotting.com Its a photo-link site to a world of food/cooking/recipe sites. I am luck enough to have had some photos accepted - truffles and citrus cheesecake amongst others. It really is a good quality site and can keep you entertained for hours!!

SKK cookware!  (7 Replies)
Sunday 20 April 10:45

I hope someone can assist me.

Has anyone got any of these pans in particular the latest range called SKK Diamant? (see below)

http://www.salamandercookshop.com/index.php?main_page=index&manufacturers_id=102

1) How heavy are these pans?
2) How do they perform when it comes to cooking?
3) How good is the non-stick?
4) Are they worth the money as they are expensive?

thank you!

Friday 18 April 18:55

Have just made this! Beautiful! very authentic.
Recipe on UKTV food web site.
Think my red chillies were a but hot though, will cut down next time.
Also you should Create a "Velvet" by mixing the cornflour with some 4-5 tbs water. Add the chicken to this mixture and mix. This makes the chicken very very smooth and soft.
Happy cooking!

best ever pie dish  (1 Reply)
Wednesday 16 April 20:16

Dear All,

(I posted this on the 'can you help' forum too, not sure which one was the right one)

I love making pies and I've got one of those dishes where the whole bottom comes out and you are supposed to push from below when the pie is cooked to lift it out (Does this make sense?)

Trouble is, it never quite works and I always get pie falling to pieces.

I'd welcome any recommendations for a good, practical pie dish that I can buy.

many thanks.

Saw the following in a Garden Centre leaflet:
Growing Basil in a container couldn't be easier. Keep two or three containers on the go, planted a few weeks apart from each other so there's always Basil available. Plant from seed into well draining soil and pick a sunny warm spot on the patio or in a sunny kitchen window. Basil is an annual which must be grown new each year. Pinch back flowers to prevent it going to seed.
. Leaves of a large Basil plant
' 150 ml extra virgin olive oil
' 2 cloves of minced garlic
' 1 tsp sea salt
' 50g grated parmesan
' 25 g roasted pine nuts

Mix ingredients in a blender. You may need to add a drop of water to help blending. Process until mostly smooth (adding extra oil if required). Will keep in a container in the fridge for 2-3 days. Dottie Mayx

I have been using this soya alternative to ice cream for some time now, and actually prefer it to other bought ice creams, but they have changed the recipe and the basic vanilla one is now delicious, with little dots of vanilla seeds, too! Under two quid in the supermarkets, look for a black hexagon-shaped tub - suits veggies and vegans, too. Recommended! Bramble xxx
