HELP! My Fiance is lactose and gluten intolerant. He had really bad food poisoning as a teenager and has lost certain enzymes in his stomach. Does anyone know of any good sites to help me find recipes/products to help me vary our meal times.
recipe base!
Has he tried replacing the enzymes? I have a shortage of the enzymes that cope with lactose - had some very bleak moments when I thought I could never eat cheese again oh woe! but I take a Creon capsule with cheese or cream and can eat them again :-) Don't go mad, though!
They're quite expensive in this country - I buy mine in Greece or Spain for a quarter of the price, but got them on prescription at first. Do let me know if he tries them?

There were a couple of discussions about coelic problems on the site somewhere and I've been trying to find them to give you the recommended site - off to do a search and will get back to you, unless somebody else does first.
Can't find the relevant post Psychomum but I'm sure this is the site recommended:

Hope it's of help.
Hi psychomum, I have IBS and have my icky phases. I've discoved various products and sites along the way, however Glutafin have a site that tells you about their products and gives recipes too, it's quite useful. Here's their website: http://www.glutafin.co.uk/
I also found this list of recipes on the BBC Food website that might help: http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/mostof_coeliac5.shtml#gluten-free_recipes
And finally, and you probably already know this, Tescos own range of Gluten free things isn't bad, espcially the pasta.
Hope this is some help.

could you let us know the details of the Creon capsule please Bramble? My son would love you for ever if he could eat dairy again!
I would also be interested in that capsule too for my daughter. Also Rosa, do you have any tips for wheat free snacks? Daughter is off dairy, sugar, wheat, gluten, because of her Crohn's, I can never think of what to get in for her to eat, she finds the Tesco gluten free stuff very sweet and sugary, any tips??
Hi Impi, can she eat nuts? I tend to fill up on almonds and seeds when all else fails. I also find rice cakes quite yummy, espcially the flavoured ones but you have to be careful of what extras they add to them to make them tasty. Can she eat oats? I know there is some dispute as to whether they are Gluten free or not. However, if she can, Nairns do a range of flavoured oat cakes and the berries and cinnamon ones are really nice. Raw veggies too. It's not very exciting is it having these tummy problems, is it? I symathise, I'm having an episode at the mo. Hope this is of help? R x
Sorry Gil, this packet's in Greek!
Ask the chemist in Boot's they sell them over the counter.
It's a digestive enzyme. The dosage on these is 10,000 so don't be alarmed at the numbers on the box :-))
For wheat and dairy free snacks I use raisins, nuts, and rice cakes. Kallo make some Marmite covered rice cakes which are much nicer than the ordinary ones. I also do all my own baking, but that does tend to involve sugar.....I'll keep thinking about that. The local health-food shop has bars which are basically just squashed fruit and nuts, but they are quite sweet as well. If you can get to a Traidcraft stall (churches often have them) look for the Plaintain Crisps which are yummy.
