How to Cheat menu

Delia's How to Cheat recipes are hugely popular, so we thought that, for ultimate cheating, we would combine three of them into a menu for 4 that works really well for summer – and we've offered you an alternative main course as well. Your guests simply won't believe that so little effort was involved – are you going to let on?

Avocado with Prawns or Prawn and Avocado Cocktail

This is an amazingly brilliant cheat and absolutely everyone adores it. But be warned, it only works with Tesco Prawn Cocktail which has the best, juiciest prawns and dressing by a mile.

Main courses

Spanish Pork Stew with Potatoes and Chorizo

Although there are a couple of subtle cheats here, this one does end up tasting quite authentic. This is mainly due to the inclusion of a very authentic ingredient, Heinz Tomato Frito.

 Chicken Véronique

This one's an absolute doddle, as the actual work involved is minimal. Given that none of us really wants to stand around meticulously browning a chicken after a hard day, here we are going to let the oven do the work and as a result have lots of lovely time to shower, do a crossword or, like me, watch Channel Four News.

Mini Pavlovas with Strawberries and Mascarpone

Marks and Spencer meringue nests are the real thing but without all the bother. They even have that home-made pale honey colour and a long shelf life so all you need to do is arrive home with a tub of mascarpone and some red ripe English strawberries and this luscious dessert for four people can be made in moments.

Which wine? Here are our suggestions for this cheat menu...
