Hand on heart
Sticking to your January diet and keeping a healthy heart can be done at the same time. British Heart Foundation dietician, Victoria Taylor says 'It is possible to eat a varied, tasty, healthy diet that gives you all the nutrients you need, lose weight and keep it off'.
Her simple guidelines include keeping to a regular meat pattern, cutting down on high fat/sugar foods, and include plenty of fruit and vegetables. Keep it varied so you don't get too bored and find you have given up in a matter of days, and pay attention to portion sizes. She also recommends you find out your BMI to help work out how much weight you need to lose, not forgetting exercise and being active to also help you shed the pounds and keep your heart healthy.
Why not have a look at Delia's collection of recipes that taste good while doing you good?
Would you know what to do if someone was having a heart attack?
BHF are promoting hands-only Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), in their national campaign, which includes a video of Vinnie Jones helping show how easy it is. Using the beat of the Bee Gees classic song Stayin' Alive to get the right tempo of the chest compressions, and a fair amount of your weight to push down, you may be surprised to know that anyone can perform hands-only CPR, and could help save the life of someone who is having a cardiac arrest.
