Know your Gala from your Newton Wonder?
Not many people do... research by The National Trust has shown that although 53% of us crunch into an apple each week, 40% of Britons are unable to name home-grown varieties of apple.
As part of its Food Glorious Food campaign, the charity has published an online guide called ‘How to eat an apple’ to encourage people to buy British grown apples and help ensure our apple heritage is preserved.
As well as outlining the properties for eating, cooking and storing of many native varieties, it also tells you what to partner apples with – and it’s not just cheese!
