Christmas lunch for £4.79 a head....yes, really!
These lists are a guide based on our research using the nearest pack size available at the time. It may be that you find some better suited pack sizes or that you know that you will use more of a some ingredients in your cooking and therefore find that it beneficial to buy a larger quantity which, can be better value overall. We have also prepared you a list of ingredients with the weights that you actually need, for the 3 course lunch menu, so you can tick off that ones that you may already have.
Shopping list for Christmas lunch menu only
A day or so before you make your pudding (Ingredients for the pudding and the store cupboard)
Fruit
1 orange
1 lemon
1 small Bramley apple
Dairy
6 medium eggs
Bakery
1 x 400g tinned loaf (make and freeze your breadcrumbs for the stuffing at the same time you make the breadcrumbs for the pudding).
Store cupboard
200g jar cranberry sauce
500ml groundnut oil
1 pack/jar whole nutmeg
1 jar/pack ground mixed spice
1 jar/pack bay leaves
150g Marigold Vegetable Bouillon
500g self-raising flour
500g plain flour
200g shredded suet
500g soft dark brown sugar
500g sultanas
500g raisins
500g currants
200g chopped mixed peel
70g whole almonds (with the skin-on)
Salt and pepper (if you don't have any!)
Alcohol
35cl brandy
75cl red wine
33cl Guinness or Stout
20cl port
Few days before Christmas
Meat and Fish
2 x 700g – 800g fresh turkey drumsticks
450g sausagemeat
250g pack sliced smoked streaky bacon
200g smoked salmon slices (a value or promotion pack)
Vegetables
1.7kg Desiree potatoes (or a 2.5kg pre-pack)
1.35kg parsnips
350g Brussels sprouts (or button sprouts are nicer if the price is good)
450g shallots
1 head garlic
1 medium onion
200g or 1 pack fresh chestnuts (whatever is cheaper)
1 packet fresh dill
1 packet fresh sage
1 packet fresh thyme
Dairy
1 pt milk
300ml tub crème fraîche (preferably French)
1 small tub double cream
1 packet butter
1 packet lard (to cook the roast potatoes)

Your total shopping trolley would come to a total of £51.69, but this assumes that you are literally starting from scratch. In the event you may well already have a number of store-cupboard ingredients - such as flour, oil, sugar, spices etc - in which case the costs would be much lower.
