Fresh from the freezer: 100 delicious freezer friendly recipes by Ghillie James
I love this book! At a time when many people are faced with ever increasing food prices it's good to come across a book that encourages you to use gluts of produce from the garden or market stall in a range of recipes. There's also a very useful section on freezing leftovers so that as little food as possible is wasted.
But of course it's the recipes that people buy a book for and this one is packed with exciting possibilities - particularly useful in these cooler months when making soups, stews, casseroles and curries for freezing is a comforting thought. There are also great dessert and cake recipes.
Ghillie used go work in the cookery department at Sainsbury's Magazine so you can guarantee that these recipes will have been rigorously tested and guaranteed to work.
The recipes include Spicy carrot, tomato, chorizo and coriander soup, sausage rolls with mustard and poppy seeds, leek and Stilton tarts, asparagus and pea risotto, aubergine and lentil moussaka, tamarind and prawn parcels, uox cheeks with red wine and mushrooms and lamb and prune tagine, divided into started, suppers and prepare-ahead mains. For each recipe there are freezing, defrosting and reheating instructions.
Cakes and desserts look mouthwatering: choca-mocha loaf with mascarpone icing, nutty honeycomb ice cream, raspberry and White chocolate muffins and pavlova with pomegranates and raspberries, to name a few.
This would make a great Christmas gift for anyone who likes cooking for the freezer or simply has a busy life and needs to be able to draw on really yummy food from the freezer when time is tight but you want to eat well.
