What's eating you? Celebrity chefs, food intolerances, which diets work, seasonal foods, your favourite cuisines... this is where you can exchange news, views, gripes and good ideas.
We had a new conservatory put on the back of the house last October. Since this recent hot weather we are being plagued with flies - I am reguarly sweeping up at least 30 per day. Hubby is spraying room nightly but dont want to keep doing this as its expensive
Anyone got any suggestions of why we are being plagued? I dont keep any food in there or plants or flowers
Also suggestions welcomed on how to deal with the little buggers!

I notice (and smell) the BBQ season is here again, but after last year I now hate BBQ-ing!
I am always the person who has to stand sweating in the sunshine over a smoking horrible greasy fire AND clean the thing afterwards! The weber grill I brought all the way home from America is huge, takes tons of charcoal and is terrible to clean - the gas version we had wasn't that much better either!
I love al fresco eating and picnics, so this year it's cooking inside, and eating outside! Far more civilised!
Anyone with me?
After scrubbing and springcleaning all day, I decided that since it was Friday, or in fact any day, I`d open a nice bottle of white as a reward.
None in the fridge, thought I`d loads, too tired to go to the shop, and too grubby, but there are about 5 bottles of red. Good ones, bad ones, but it makes no difference as I just can`t drink it.
When my friends come, they seem to drink white all night, (and the more I have the more they drink) yet they bring red. WHY? Looks like some beef casseroles will be made soon.....
Does this ever happen to you? What is your favourite wine?
crumbs :-)
I'm fortunate enough that I often receive e-mails from a lot of people with jokes, things to make you laugh, interesting quotes etc. When I forward them myself to people I think might be interested, I invariably have to cut huge reams of e-mail addresses out of them of the people that they have already been sent to.
I'm usually careful who I give out my e-mail address to, and actually have 3 of them for different uses, but I'm a bit concerned that whoever gets the e-mail next will not do the same. At the very least, this list could end up being used by spammers, and at the worst, criminal elements could use it for fraud, industrial espionage, and worse.
They usually include business e-mail addresses, and, as my husband works in security, he has told me that if he came across this when doing an audit, he'd have the person responsible fired, it's that serious a breach of security.
If you are going to send to a long list of people, don't send using just the 'to:' or 'CC:' fields, but instead use the 'BCC:' field. This sends the e-mail to all your desired recipients, but each only sees their own e-mail address and no data relating to the other recipients is stored either in the e-mail header or text.
Just taken the loaf out of the oven and it is FANTASTIC can't believe it was so easy I think I might take a picture and send it over to you....chuffed to bits. Not tasted it yet though..proof of the pudding and all that !!
Only spot of bother I had was the change over of Cups to lbs and ozs I think I may have used too much water and therefore had to use quite a lot of extra flour when I formed the bread after the initial rise.
Which brings me to a question in this type of bread making do you think it matter what kind of cup you use as long as you use the same one throughout the recipe, it isn't as though I am combining fats, just flour, water salt and yeast, what do you think ?
Any info from anyone would be great. Thanks
Will definitely do it again.
Yummy
Last week I read that some Asian countries had banned the export of all rice except for basmati. Isn't basmati rice eaten in those countries? Anyone know or have experience there?

I have just done an assignment at a company which banned the use of exclamation marks within any company literature, internal memos, emails etc. They reckoned they are so over used they become both pointless and irritating. I have to say when you are working to the rule, it does make you realise how easy it is to drop them in left right and centre. Funny rule though don't you think? Or are we all going to become much more punctuation precise?
I had lunch at Atul Kochhar's restaurant yesterday (sublime food and a million miles from your usual vindaloo!!) where they were matching Merrydown cider with Indian food. It was a total revelation - much better than beer or wine and the fruitiness of the cider really complemented the spicy food well. Don't think it would work with any old cider as some are much sharper but this was really gorgeous. Thoroughly recommend it to you Indian food fans.
Just seen Gordon Ramsey's rant about Delia' HTC book.
He suggests she has let all the chefs down, by amongst other things using tinned ingredients which only poor students should be trying !!!
Strangely enough, this latest tirade comes at the same time he is seeking publicity for only using in seasonal fruit and vegetables which in itself is laudable, if you can afford it.
I enjoyed watching him at last years Good Food Show, did'nt enjoy his foul mouth, was amused at his cookalong, but for goodness sake, he really should keep his mouth shut, Delia was teaching us to cook when he was still in nappies !!
Rant over, I'll get my coat !!!

Wondering what connection you have with kitchenfoods. Is it a new job or business?
can anyone suggest any good websites for me to go and look at / play on?
I realise I should be working but I simply can't bring myself to do it today. It's my little rebellion because I'm inside on such a sunny day.
I'm relying on you my delia buddies x
So where did you end up on the Bank Hol Sunday ?
One of the tenants at work left a chicken out to defrost yesterday afternoon. I said he needed to put it in the fridge last night, but he forgot. Personally, I would roast it still and take the chance, but feel I can't advise the tenant to do the same.
What would you do?

When we lived in the Uk we were awakened each morning by a Blackbird sitting on our rooftop singing the opening tune of The Addams Family !!
This year we have had a Blackbird that we thought had been to the Delia school of songbirds because he started off by singing - Where Are Ya,? Where Are Ya ?? !!
Now he has progressed to What are you Doing ? What are you Doing ?? and it is driving my Hubby BONKERS as he is out there in the garden (more room than the workshop) most days trying to make kitchen cupboards !!
What do your birds sing (if anything) in your garden??
Yummy, Brittany
Another beautiful warm & sunny day but just noticed the freezer stuffed to overflowing with small tupperware contaners (not labelled!), ironing pile growing and had planned another baking session (just discovered i acn take photos & want to add them to my blog) - want to try making chocolate macaroons...but then again, the thought of sitting in the sun...??? Bet I don't though. CAn you just walk away from jobs you just know have to be done? I can't but would love to! Have a great day - It's a holiday here in France today but not for Oh, he has to work!!
