Hi all just back from three weeks in California. Glorious weather and had a wonderful time. Hope I haven't missed much!
Really funny first thing that we ate when we got home yesterday was a wonderful bacon buttie - I have missed bacon sooo much followed by Toad in the hole with lots and lots of cabbage and thick gravy for dinner
I always come home from the states craving vegetables and gravy -its so weird
So I wondered do you crave anything n particular whilst you are on holiday? What food are you desperate to come home and eat??

I'm like you - its the thick gravy that I crave so I guess I would say a lovely roast dinner with all the trimmings is something I miss when I'm away!! Followed by apple pie and cream and custard and ice-cream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad to hear that you had a good time in California.
When we get home from vacation, I crave pasta with a tomato based sauce.

Hi Jools

I've been keeping up with your holiday through your blog..... you really do sound as if you've had a brilliant time. Did you manage to fit everything in your suitcases? :o) or did you have to leave G behind..... lol

Cup of decent tea is what I miss the most. A bacon butty comes fairly high on the list ... oh and decent toast...... you only ever get those silly slow toasters that the bread goes round so slowly on and is never done enough.

You're right about the DIY toasters, Saffy........and if they bring you toast it's always crammed in a basket so it goes all soft. Yuk.

Welcome back Jools, pleased to hear you've had a good time (and you'll have had better weather than we have!) My must have is chips, beans and egg - soft yoke to dip the chips in - a bacon butty is first if it's too early for the chips etc.

When I come back from holiday I'm desperate for fresh fruit and salads. Usually I eat nothing but fruit and salads for a week after the return - because we always overeat during holidays, and the two weeks in Russia were no exception. Lunch always had a salad starter, soup, main course and dessert. Dinner didn't have soup, but all dishes were very generously served.

So pleased you had a great time.

We don't crave anything on holiday & when we return usually want to replicate meals we have enjoyed. I think we eat healthier & have more exercise (walking) whilst on holiday.

With you on that one - I always want vegetables when I am back from the States! I have to eat out so often when I am away with work I really want a proper square meal piled high with fresh vegetables when I get home! X

Very pleased you had a good holiday Jools and hope you are feeling much better. High on my list is a bacon buttie, although I do enjoy the crispy bacon that you get in the US. Also, I do enjoy a roast dinner. Dottie Mayx

A cup of tea made properly and spicy food - especially after skiing when you tend to have a lot of hearty stews etc. Something like a thai prawn curry goes down a treat. And because we never watch tv on holiday, I always rather enjoying settling in for the night with the remote!

A fry up and indian curry! The last time i was away (early July), ate a lot of Chinese & Japanese food (this was in London) and hearty British comfort food (Chester). When I got home, the first thing I thought about was curry.

When my son was younger he went to Central America for 9 mnths . On the way back from the airport he rung me (on his Dad's advice ) and asked for a proper cup of tea and a bacon sarnie . I duelly did it . After 1/2 hr at home he said "must go and see my mates have not seen them for 9 months " What about me ???
