can anyone tell me where to buy preserved lemons as i have tried several supermarkets and couldnt find any.i would like to cook delias moroccan chicken with preserved lemons.thanks,jane.

Sorry i would not know where you could buy them from, i think my mum was looking for them a while ago and we could not get any anywhere. I just checked on compare supermarket and says no entrie found on 4 of the biggest supermarkets.

I bought preserved lemons (They are in a bottle) in Sainsburys and have since seen them in Waitrose. They are a super ingredient. I made the Morrocan recipe a week or so ago janey. I can recommend it highly . We loved it and I shall be cooking it for friends and family next time.

If you go onto UKTVFood.co.uk there are no less than four chefs telling you how to preserve lemons yourself,

Yep mine are from sainsbury - saw them in the cupboard the other day and couldn't remember which recipe I'd bought them for! Thanks for reminding me.

Preserved Lemons.
Well scrub lemons. Quarter the lemons lengthways, but do not cut right through to the bottom - the lemon s should be intact at one end. Rub about one and a half teaspoons of salt into each cut and place the lemons in a kilner jar, squashing to fit as many in as possible. top up with a cooled brine solution made by dissolving 25g/1oz of salt to every 600ml/1 pint of boiling water. It is important that the lemons are totally submerged in the liquid, - I secure them in place by scrunching up a ball of greaseproof paper. They should be ready to use in a couple of weeks. To use...........rinse under cold water and discard the pulp. Delicious used in tagines of chicken, lamb or fish or cut in thin strips or diced in vegetable tagines or in salads.

Janey I too live in Southampton and bought the preserved lemons in Sainsburys Hedge E. nd and Waitrose in Portswood also stock them
