What is Dress Italian Sauce - or whatever it is called? Is it any different to any other kind of sauce, such as frito, or passata? I have never really heard of it before, and now my little brain cant cope!!!

Dress is the name of the people who make the sauce, and the stockists are listed in the How to Cheat book :-)))

Happy to be a twonk, Rob (in good company), but as I don't buy ready sauces I generally haven't heard the names.

I think you can use any jarred tom sauce, but I would stick to a reliable name...but then I cheat and make my own tom sauce, I tried a jarred one once and didn;t like it, I wouln't name the product but they have an advert on the telly at the moment with an annoying american twang.

I have at last been able to get the Dress Italian tomato sauce (Asda) but until now I have been using alternative makes (Waitrose own and Seeds of Change) and they have been ok. It's nothing like tomato frito which I use in the cheat recipes and I used passata in a recipe as I couldn't get anything else at the time and was dissapointed. If you look at the back of the book their web site is listed dressitalian.com where they list their stockists.

I've just bought Waitrose own tomato with onion and basil - the ingredients look the same to me as Dress Italia but it's about a quarter of the price! In fact I've just had a very nice slow browse around Waitrose and I suspect that DP will be horrified at the bill! He normally does the supermarket shop but he's on a golf away day so I was let loose.
