I have recently inherited a Panasonic breadmaker. After reading a few recipes I thought I'd give it a go - unfortunately it was a complete disaster! All th mixture spilled out of the pan onto the heating elements - I probably used too much! Does anyone have a very basic (learners) foolproof recipe that I could try for every day bread?
White or brown?
If you phone 08705 357357 during working hours, the nice Panasonic customer services lady will be happy to send you some recipes, or give you any advice you require. I`m sure you can still buy a booklet for the model you have.
Let me know your preference and I can type up a recipe for you. Mine is an SD252
crumbs :-)
My panasonic breadmaker is a SD-251 and the recipe that I use for an every day bread is actually from the recipe booklet that came with my machine and it is actually called Ciabatta but I think it makes a very nice loaf of bread and all my family love it and it freezes well.
The recipe makes a large loaf only,
1tsp yeast
500g(1lb2oz) Strong White Flour
1tsp sugar
1tsp salt
3tbsp olive oil
350ml water
Simply put the ingredients in the pan in the order I have given, and select Basic Bake option of 4 hours. You can bake this loaf using the timer if you want.
Hope this is a help to you give it a go I can highly reccommend it. Let me know how you get on if you decide to make it.

Hi - It is a shame that you didn't have success with your first loaf. Below is a recipe that I use an lot and makes a very good loaf of bread in our Panansonic machine.
½ tsp yeast
7oz (200g) Strong Wholemeal flour
7oz (200g) Strong White Flour
1 tbsp sugar
½ oz (15g) butter
1 tbsp Milk powder
1tsp salt
300ml Water
This makes a medium sized loaf, on the wholemeal bread selection. Did you put the ingredients in the pan in the right order and were they the EXACT amounts, as above? This is very important. Don't give up - it really is worth trying again!

Definitely don't give up - my first effort was a total disaster but I am now enjoying using it every day and producing fab bread. I do find that I need to add a bit more salt than specified otherwise it tastes of nothing, but am sure you'll get there in the end.
don;t give up, i think we all had an oops with our first loaves.
I have a panasonic sd 255......I spotted my first mistake half way through the rise......I totally mis-read the recipe, I thought it said 3 to 4 teaspoons of yeast when it was actually 3 quarters of a teaspoon.
I was lucky and managed to dispose of before MAJOR disaster happened.
And use warm water....even if you are putting it on timer...that has worked better for me, I have also heard mention of bread improver....but haven;t found where to buy that yet, have scanned my tesco and sainsbugs....
Do try again! I Have had mine since ooo March i think, and have not brought a loaf since!
Wow, thanks for all the responses! Lots of encouragement and advice which I will be taking on board. I've got a SD 206 and I'm pretty sure I don't have the booklet but I will have another look or try to get a copy.
Another question I'd like to ask is - what's better, dry or fresh yeast? I have most of the ingredients so I think I'll give it a go this weekend. Really looking forward to my first loaf of homemade bread!

I've tried different makes of yeast and the best in my opinion is Allinson Easy Bake Yeast. It comes is a 125g box so you can use as much or as little as you like, depending on your recipe. Make sure it's the one for breadmakers as opposed to hand baking as there are two types. Keep it airtight with a plastic clip, in the fridge.
I have been using my Panasonic Breadmaker for years and generally use one of the following 3 recipes. You MUST be exact with the yeast measurement to avoid it rising too much. basic white bread - 5 ml dried yeast, 300g white bread flour, 15ml white sugar, 5ml salt, 15ml milk powder, 15g butter, 210ml water. rich white bread - 5 ml dried yeast, 300g white bread flour, 30ml white sugar, 5ml salt, 90ml milk powder, 30g butter, 210ml water. cheese bread - 5 ml dried yeast, 300g white bread flour, 15ml white sugar, 5ml salt, 15ml milk powder, 15g butter, 210ml water. I add extra cheese / herbs / onion flakes etc. for the savoury cheese one. Good luck and don't give up !
