Maybe a silly question but I have 2 cartons of buttermilk in fridge with a use by date of 5th May.....I bought them intending to bake some wheaten bread but did not get around to it....and now have decided I could use them to do Nigella's buttermilk marinade with chicken in fridge tonight for dinner tomorrow night....
I know it is sour milk but would it be ok to still use....

If it`s gone gloopy, Dolly I wouldn`t use it. It doesn`t keep like milk. I think you might be ruining a lovely meal by risking it.
I would keep mine for about 3 days after sellby date, but no longer, but then that`s just memories of Granny sniffing things and turning her nose up. Have a sniff, and a pour, you`re instinct will tell you, Dolly.
crumbs :-)
My Mum used to make lovely scones with sour milk and they turned out a dream, and very light, bit like using yoghurt. So for the sake of a bit of flour and butter I would give it a go Dolly. Sorry this is a bit late , it may be down the sink by now !!
Yummy ;0)
