and i would some advice.

there is nothing on the label other than a recipe.

i have found a bit of info from the tinterweb, and i was aware that you can't harvest in first year, and then in second year you can only harvest a couple of stalks.

from the tinterweb, i have found out that i should really have got 2 crowns.

so any and all advice will be very much appreciated.

Hi Sammy, I have five crowns at the moment. Nothing last year but this year they are coming on great guns and I have made a couple of jars of compote already. If you can find room for another one do so, or three if you can. Apparently they pull one another up and single ones can stay a bit squat. The other stuff about the harvesting is correct and when they are going at full strength only pull several stalks from each plant at a time, don't denude them. This way they will continue to produce. Eep! I've been doing it all wrong. I got a plant from my mother's back garden and it's been growing like mad since I planted it in mine. When we harvest it we take all but one or two leaves. Then in a week or so it's all growing back again. I didn't know any better:(

Don't worry too much rhubarb is a quick grower. 7 years ago I started off with 3 crowns I now have 12! Once they get really big you can split the crown into several plants.

I have also grown rhubarb crowns from seed and that grows quick as well.

I wondered about that Linda, I have seen loads of packets of rhubarb seed over here but thought it would take years for them to get to fruiting size but obviosly not! Viv xx

Lots of people (mainly men I might add) said "you can't grow rhubarb from seeds" I just had to prove them wrong!
The seeds don't take long to get started but of course you can't pick any sticks until the 2nd year.

I read that you can only plant the crowns between Oct - Dec, is this not correct then?
