not sure where to put this, but wanted to chat about it.
sorry but what a load of rubbish that film is.....OH fell asleep and thats normally my role....I had to force myself to watch it, cos i had heard such good reviews...but i thought the plot, the actors, the SFX was all a waste of time and money.
At the same time I thought the Kite Runner wasn't worth all the hype..maybe the book is better.
Atonement, was also lacking - in what i don;t know, but it was also nothing like the hype - maybe book is also better.
Anyone recommend any good films????
Sammy
I couldn't get into any of his books so will not be watching the film. I rarely watch films i get a dvd out but seldom watch much of it
for me its ' Shawshank Redemption ' and ' A Star is Born'
and ' Singing in The Rain '
well I am a retro teenager.
xx
I loved the Dark Materials books but am too mean to buy the dvd so will wait until it comes out on telly next year sometime. However, I am waiting with baited breath for The Colour of Magic to come out on dvd!
I read the follow up to the Kite Runner (A thousand golden suns - can't remember the exact title). The book was great. I'm invariably disappointed with films when I've read the book. The first one I remember being really disappointed with was The Carpetbaggers (how long ago was that?) I did, though, enjoy the film of the Poseiden Adventure (the original with Shelly Winter). OH thought I was crackers for not wanting to watch Titanic with Kate Winslet and Leonardo whatsisname! Told him I'd seen it so I knew what happened!! I agree with Nanny Ogg's films - very good, all of them and I could watch Grease (Olivia NJ and John Travolta) over and over and over again. Fell asleep in the cinema watching Lord of the Rings (got a nudge from son who said I was snoring - who me? He was probably right though.) Oh one film I really did love was Cocoon. Have to admit, I'm not much of a film buff.
Recently been on holiday involving quite a few flights so was at the mercy of films. I love Phillip Pullmans books but agree Golden Compass did not live up to the hype.
Michael Clayton with George Clooney was good, slow to start but be patient. National treasure, Book of Secrets-enjoyable,bit Indiana Jones but I love Nic Cage! Worlds Fastest Indian with Antony(sp) Hopkins was great & for a laugh- Death at a Funeral. I sound so sad but the flights were long & reading was hard at times.
Oh never watch films on flights . I read or sleep, can sleep on a washing line just so long as I am warm . Susan xx
Yes - agree with Nanny Ogg about the Shawshank Redemption - brilliant film. I loved The Green Mile as well - stunning film.
I tend to like good action films -Leon is superb, I love Pulp Fiction (that just gets better and better every time I see it). Reservoir Dogs is another good film, bu not one I can watch too regularly. Goodfellas is another favourite.

I would love to know where you got the DVD The Kite Runner from Sam ;-)
The book was good...not yet seen the film...but I think you said in an earlier post Sam about being frustrated as the lead was a wimp...that came through loud and clear in the book, although perhaps somewhat a tad more sympathetically!!!
i will see the film tho...but will wait a while.
I loved the Kill Bill films...so well shot and fantastic coreography (sp), if not a little gory.
cinema Paradiso is a good film...(you seen it yet Dolly)....but i am a bit of a boy at heart...and love all the James Bond films, and the Star Wars films....such a cliche lol
Not to mention the Godfather film with Brando...although the book is soooo much better
xx
Not as much of a cliche as Doris Day or Judy Garland though Rob!

or Priscilla Queen of the Desert....an absolutely fabulous film dahling!!!
Just posted on the coffee break thread - SiL loaned me the DVD As It Is In Heaven - subtitles as it's Swedish - 2005 best foreign language film of the year. I really enjoyed it - about a famous conductor who has a breakdown and moves back to the village of his childhood in a remote part of northern Sweden - and what happens next is quite an emotional roller coaster.
Ooooh, love Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Shawshank Redemption and the Green Mile. I love Chocolat and The Cider House Rules, and loved the book even more. Schindler's List made me cry and my OH's fave film Moulin Rouge. Viv xx
I know this is an old post now but I want to get a word in. I've read the books and been fascinated. The film could only be dissappointing. The way the story is told can't be translated onto the screen. Much better to add my own imagination.
I still love Some Like It Hot, one of my top 10 films. I know it's ancient but so funny. Chocolat was great, Viv. Chicago for a musical, love the music, always makes me dance. Nanny McPhee and Over The Hedge are hilarious. I know they're meant for children but hey. I also love The Negotiator with Samuel L Jackson and Kevin Spacey. Amazing acting.
Problem here is that I've not been to the cinema in years, just haven't had the time. I'll make up for it when I can.
