well, it's our day today...I knew nothing about it till I switched on the news this morning - that's not right surely.
I certainly know when st.guiness..er st. patricks day is!!
anyone doing anything english today?
At my children's school (a primary) the Headteacher, yesterday, actively encouraged anyone who was a Beaver, Cub, Brownie etc, to wear their uniform today to celebrate St. Georges Day.
This is the first time ever he has done this and I for one am pleased that an effort is being made to recognise it.
My daughter looked very smart in her Beavers uniform...aah!

I always wore a red rose on this day, for many years, but sadly was often alone. I became accustomed to some very strange glances, even in London. It would be lovely for more English people to acknowledge our Saints Day. Yes, I know he wasn't English per se, but I think this shows how England and the British Isles were rarely zenophobic in days of old. Biggs
I believe it is still legal to date an official letter as St Georges Day YYYY as opposed to 23rd April YYYY
And on a day when the papers report that Brussels wants to wipe England off the map, and create a
'United Europe'.
I have had a red rose pinned to my top and the flag of St George attached to my wheelchair. Everyone throughout my town said cheers. Sadly, only a few others did alike.
Come on England, it's up to you!
Well done Uncle B, we might have to wear white roses in Yorkshire though, round here the red rose means the old enemy over the Pennines are shaking their swords! We call them the Red Nose County :-)))
Which paper John? They'll have trouble in Brussels erasing the shape of the British Isles off the map - it is rather obviously separated from the Continent!

Xenophobic? ME??
And of course the papers always print the truth........
we celebrated...have made more comment about it in coffee break....I have to say there was only 2 other houses in my road that bore flags, my road has over 200 houses in it.
I didn;t see one car driving along with the flags (like what they do at football times)
I wore a red rose all day, as did my car, OH refuses to wear a red rose - for obvious reasons - he is a builder, and also it contrevenes health and safety as he or a fellow worker may get injured from the pin!!! I ask you.

Has any body considered that so few people celebrate St George's Day because he is fictional and he killed a mythical beast.
