Oh dear that should have read 'heavily soiled with Ragu' --your books are not spoiled
I love my cookbooks - they tell a story!
They are the only books I ever write in - make margin notes about changes I made to the recipe, when I made it, what we thought of it etc
And the best-loved recipes - those pages are splattered with grease, sauce, dried on bits of everything - it shows they are loved!
I can always look at a cookbook and the stains on the pages and remember specific time when I have cooked that particulary dish, it's great isn't it ! Viv xx
I was thinking about this topic this morning as I was cooking Delia's Luxury Fish Pie - Yummy if you haven't yet.
All the cookbooks I have - a virtual library - have no comments in them with the exception of Delia's. Delia's are pencilled, with notes and where I have doubled the measurements etc., what dish I used for this etc.,-- and of course with odd splatters of gravies or fats. Great Books which have taught me cooking from the beginning.
