Cape gooseberries (physalis)
Also known as the Cape gooseberry or ground cherry; physalis is a member of the nightshade family; this fruit can be eaten fresh or dried.
Cape gooseberries, or physalis, do have a gooseberryish taste. Fold back the papery husks to expose their shiny gold colour. Eat the flesh whole or dip it in fondant icing to serve as after-dinner sweets.
