 Kiwi fruit Key facts Native to southern China, the kiwi fruit is now grown commercially in Italy, China and New Zealand, where it gained its common name (but is also known as the Chinese gooseberry). Only widely available since the early 1980s, kiwi fruit is a very rich source of vitamin C, potassium and fibre, these are mostly found just under the skin, which is why some people don't peel a kiwi before eating.

You can use a potato peeler here to pare off the skin and slice it, or if you want to eat one whole, slice the top off and scoop the flesh out with a teaspoon, as if you were eating a boiled egg.
