M & M Rutland, Family Butchers

Without doubt one of the finest butchers in East Anglia, Mike and Marion Rutland now share the running of the business with their four children. Marion was from the Graves family, another excellent butcher in nearby Briston.
Apart from the high quality of their meat, the family is one of the nicest you could find, infinitely willing to help customers in any way they can. The range of good things in their shop makes choosing what to buy a hard but very enjoyable task.
All Rutlands meat is locally reared and naturally grown. Bacon and ham is traditionally dry-cured and oak smoked from their own pork. One of the more interesting varieties is the smoked black treacle bacon. All chicken and duck is fresh and free-range.
Of some dozen types of sausage, the wild boar and juniper is delicious, as is the 'deer and beer' made from venison and Guinness. There are also haggis sausages and Mike Rutland's home-made haggis is a great treat.
A haggis ready-meal is just one of the many prepared dishes made by daughter Tracy. In one dish are haggis, neeps and tatties to heat through. There are countless kebabs, chops and burgers ready-prepared for the barbecue, and you can buy home-made chicken stock and goose dripping for your roast potatoes.
