Delia to receive honour in Queen's Birthday Honours
Delia was announced as a member of the prestigious Order of the Companions of Honour in this year's Queen's Birthday Honours.
The award was given in recognition of her contribution to cooking and cookery education in this country. Delia says 'From day one I received so much encouragement and enthusiasm from the people who responded to what I was trying to do. This honour is an even deeper affirmation. I feel proud to have received it but also humble as I am quite certain it belongs to all of them as well as me'.
The Order of the Companions of Honour was founded a hundred years ago by King George V and is conferred on men and on women for recognised services of national importance. The order consists of the Sovereign and ordinary members who are restricted to 65 in total. Current members of the order include Stephen Hawking, David Attenborough, David Owen, Judi Dench, David Hockney, Roger Bannister, Maggie Smith, John Major, Ian McKellen and Bridget Riley among others.
