On Friday November 4 at 7.30pm in the Royal Festival Hall, The Mozart Festival Orchestra, Britain’s most elegant ensemble bursting with 18th century grandeur, together with The City of London Choir set musical fireworks alight.
They perform much-loved works by perhaps the most influential composers of the age; the highly regarded and poignant Requiem by Mozart, along with a selection from Handel’s ever-popular Water Music Suites and The Four Seasons by Vivaldi, not surprisingly close to the top of Classic FM’s Hall of Fame year after year.
At the concert’s climax is the Requiem, a choral masterpiece performed by four soloists accompanied by The City of London Choir. From the dramatic Kyrie, with its influences from Handel, the triumphant and victorious Dies Irae, to the striking Lacrimosa, this incredibly moving piece that was unfinished at the time of Mozart’s death in 1791, reminds us of the fragility of our own mortality.
